I recently spent a short holiday in Sardinia, Italy and all I want to do is go through my camera roll to revisit the beautiful experience we had. We managed to visit 7 beautiful beaches in just 4 days and honestly, I would love nothing more than to share photos from our experience with you all.
Now for a little backstory…
We had four full days to spend in Sardinia. Our base was in San Teodoro because we flew into Olbia, in northern Sardinia. After extensive research we found that San Teodoro was the best town to stay in for that region because of the good food, parties, and its close vicinity to a lot of highly recommended beaches.
Day 1
With an early flight out of Nice, we spent the morning picking up our rental car at Olbia airport, driving 30 mins to San Teodoro, and handling all the fun check-in procedures. At this point, we were ready to beach it up! As we needed to go back to the airport at night to pick up our final travel companion, we made the decision to keep our beach exploration local. I present to you…
Spiaggia La Cinta
Day 2
This was the day we decided to explore the beautiful archipelago island of La Maddalena in the north. There are a ton of beaches on La Maddalena and Caprera, along with three popular smaller islands: Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria. Our hearts were set on visiting the 3 islands and getting to experience pink sand and some of the clearest waters. However, Mother Nature wasn’t having it. The winds were so strong that day that not a single small boat was leaving the port. Oh, our heartbreak. 💔
We acted fast though and were ready with our backup plan: Caprera! We started our day with a quick breakfast and drove 1 hour to Palau, a port city in the north so that we could take a ferry to La Maddalena with our car in tow. Caprera is connected by a strip of road just 5-10 minutes from La Maddalena’s port.
Cala Serena
We parked at Cala Garibaldi and began a 15 minute hike to Cala Serena. The path is essentially unmarked, making Cala Serena a true solitary beach escape.

Spiaggia del Relitto
We stayed on Caprera to maximize our time on the island. Spiaggia del Relitto was not very far from Cala Serena – close to a 20-minutes drive on both paved and dirt roads.
Day 3
Day 3 was a Costa Smeralda day. Costa Smeralda is also in northern Sardinia and, in my opinion, had the 2nd best beaches of those we visited (Caprera being first)! If you’re looking to splurge a little and enjoy a vacation of blissful relaxation, then Costa Smeralda might be for you.

Again, we left in the morning and drove 1 hour to arrive in Costa. Immediately, we went to our first destination.

Day 4
We couldn’t believe our fourth and final day was upon us. It sucked, to say the least, but we didn’t let that sour our mood. Like Day 1, we decided to stay in San Teodoro.
Cala Brandinchi
Salina Bamba
Salina Bamba, located in Capo Coda Cavallo, is a beach infamous for its abundance of salt. This was the 7th and final beach of our trip. By this point, it’s already 3pm so we spent the next couple hours laying in the sand and dipping in the water before we drove back to San Teodoro.

Why must you choose?! 🙂 Yes, it’s quite difficult when you’re short on time. Each beach has its own beauty. Costa Smeralda is overall very beautiful, and La Maddalena and Caprera are definitely worth a visit!
